The Person Who Bothers Me Is Myself

Did someone hurt you today? An annoying boss, a dismissive partner, parents who just don't understand...
Why did they show up in YOUR life?
Here's an uncomfortable truth: Everyone I meet is myself.
"That's ridiculous! How am I anything like that person?"
Wait.Just hear me out.
Think of someone you really can't stand.
What about them irritates you?
What tone of voice grates on you?
What behavior is unbearable?
That's exactly what you haven't accepted within yourself.
You can't hate a mirror. It simply reflects.
But when you don't like what you see? You want to smash the mirror.
Relationships work the same way.
Others are mirrors reflecting me.
If narcissists annoy you
You're denying your own need for recognition
If weak people frustrate you
You can't accept your own vulnerability
If selfish people anger you
You're condemning your own desires
We create too many rules for ourselves.
"I must be nice", Suppressing our anger
"I must be strong", Denying our sadness
"I must be perfect", Rejecting our mistakes
The more rules we have,
The more we hurt.
The more we rage.
The deeper we despair.
Someone who can't get along with themselves can't find peace with anyone else.
