At the gathering, everyone's busy showing off.
"I got promoted to manager"
"My kid got into the gifted program"
"Just got a new car—a Mercedes"
But one friend just sits there, quietly smiling.
"What about you? What are you up to?"
"Oh, just... living."
"No, I mean your job? Marriage?"
"I work at a small café. Live alone. But I'm happy."
The room goes silent.
"What's there to brag about?"
My friend replies:
"I don't live to brag."
That friend had something different.Eyes without anxiety.
Eyes without comparison.
The eyes of someone truly free.
When you stop comparing...
Try quitting social media for just one week.
Stop comparing.
Days 1-2: Anxious. Feel like you're missing out.
Days 3-4: Strangely, your heart feels lighter.
Days 5-7: For the first time in 10 years, you think about what YOU actually like.
Mornings feel less heavy
The mirror becomes less hateful
Being alone becomes comfortable
Small things spark gratitude
Same salary, same home, same face—But the world looks completely different.
